Sustainable Solutions
Making a world of difference through environmental action
Waipapa Taumata Rau, University of Auckland is committed to pursuing sustainability through research, teaching and learning, as well as thorough partnerships and capacity building.
A sustainable future requires us to take action now and to be deliberate about the environmental, social, and financial choices we make to reduce our impact on climate and biodiversity and to improve equity and well-being for all.
Taumata Teitei, our University of Auckland Vision 2030, signals a strong commitment to sustainability. We actively work towards enabling our students, identifying positive solutions to global problems, contributing to the enhancement of natural ecosystems, advancement of fair and inclusive societies, and the fostering of responsible innovation-led economies. A key priority is in meeting our obligation to our Māori communities, to our Pacific neighbours, and to students of all socio-economic backgrounds. In 2022, the University developed Te Rautaki Aronga Toitū |Sustainability Strategy 2022-2030, and Te Taumata Tukuwaro-kore | Net Zero Carbon Strategy, which together set out the blueprint for integrating sustainability into teaching, research, operations and engagement, and translate the University’s vision into action by identifying targets and priority activities. The establishment of our Sustainability Hub, Sustainable Operations Group and Ngā Ara Whetū, our sustainability-oriented research centre, link across our high-level portfolios to deliver integrated action on these ambitious strategies.
