The University of Auckland Business School (UABS) is focused on being one of the Asia-Pacific’s foremost business schools, known for the relevance and impact of our research and scholarship and the quality of our people, programmes, and partnerships. The Department of Information Systems and Operations Management (ISOM) is one of seven departments within the UABS. The department teaches undergraduate and graduate courses in most aspects of Business Information Systems, Business Analytics and also Operations and Supply Chain Management. There are two Disciplinary Areas in Information Systems: Behavioural Information Systems and  Design Science Information Systems. The Centre of Digital Enterprise (CODE), housed within ISOM, conducts research that takes a broad view of business aspects concerning digital transformation, designed to address contemporary challenges faced by societies, enterprises, policymakers and individuals.

Our Aroaro research space offers facilities to research the business implications of Augmented/Virtual Reality technology and the evolution of Spatial Computing as tools for business management.

Te Whiwhinga mahi | The opportunity 

The Department of Information Systems and Operations Management (ISOM) is seeking to appoint TWO full-time permanent staff. One at the Lecturer/Senior Lecturer level and the second at the Associate Professor level in Information Systems (Design Science).

The Disciplinary area of Design Science is rapidly growing and actively involved in strong research groups in the design, implementation, application and impact of artificial intelligence, machine learning, big data, spatial computing, sustainable digital transformation and social media on businesses, supply chains, individuals and societies. Hence, we are open to candidates from a variety of Information Systems disciplines. We are interested in speaking to candidates who have a proven research and teaching track record. Some industry experience is also welcomed.

From a research perspective, there is a preference for the candidate to have an interest in various business aspects that concern the design, development, and deployment of information technologies and analytics in people, organisations, supply chains, and societies. Specialisation can be in qualitative, quantitative, and/or design science research methods. Candidates are expected to have a proven track record of publications in top Information Systems journals. In this role, you will have the opportunity to establish and develop your research portfolio, contribute to developing the interests of the disciplinary area and provide postgraduate supervision.

In teaching, it is highly desirable that candidates are able to teach across a wide range of information systems and business analytics modules. We are looking for new colleagues with proven abilities to use various teaching methods such as student-centered learning and mixed learning methods (as appropriate for the appointment level). You will teach and contribute to the development of our undergraduate and postgraduate programmes with the opportunity to build relationships and engage with industry and other partners throughout the region and internationally. Some expertise in the application of Machine Learning and AI, data visualisation and big data are also advantageous to teach in our undergraduate and postgraduate programmes.

These are both fulltime (40 hours per week), permanent positions.
The remuneration ranges are below and salary will depend on the level of appointment.
L1 $94,981 – L7 $113,463
SL1 $120,752 – SL8 $151,251
AP from $157,822

He kōrero mōu | About you

We seek candidates who are suitably qualified with a PhD in Information Systems or related field.

Our ideal candidate for the Lecturer/Senior Lecturer position will also have the following skills and experience:

  • Is committed to high-quality research-informed teaching of both undergraduate and postgraduate courses in Business Information Systems and/or Business Analytics. Evidence of teaching at undergraduate and postgraduate levels in Business Information Systems and Business Analytics.
  • Has demonstrated independence in research development. Publication record or demonstrated potential for publication in high-quality IS journals.
  • Demonstrated knowledge in the use of technology in teaching and research skills in Information Systems or related fields.
  • Some experience in supervising and mentoring graduate students’ research in Business Information Systems (Honours, Master or PhD).

Our ideal candidate for the Associate Professor position will also have the following skills and experience:

  • Proven and ongoing publication track record in highly ranked IS journals (such as the ‘basket of 11’ and ‘A* in ABDC’, Q1 in SciMago or Scopus outlets)
  • Experience in successfully delivering undergraduate and postgraduate courses in Business Information Systems and/or Business Analytics. Experience in course lead and management or program design and development. Proven track record in designing curriculum (part or entire programme)
  • Demonstratable potential to build sustainable relationships with industry partners and evidence of the ability to promote partnerships and research links with peers within the IS scholars and businesses/agencies.
  • Proven track record attracting funding from both internal and external reputable funding schemes.
  • Proven track record in successfully supervising graduate students’ research in Business Information Systems (Honours, Masters or PhD).
  • Experience in leadership and mentoring of early career researchers.
